Lent Day #7

Day #7 (40acts): Be spontaneous. I was in our local hospital today and was chatting with a member of staff. I can’t remember how we got around to it but I learned that this woman’s daughter had a job interview today so I offered to pray for her and my offer was well received. It turned out to be an inspiring conversation about how God provides and how, in Quaker parlance, way opens. I certainly hadn’t planned this and was happy to have the opportunity arise naturally rather than my trying to force it.

Day #7 (action): During the hospital visit I learned that it is possible to become a member of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and so I joined. From here on I’ll be getting regular information about what the trust is doing, will be consulted on major changes to their services, can attend events and take part in focus groups and surveys, can elect governors and can stand for election as a governor. Having seen the attacks on the NHS in recent months from the government, I feel that now is as good a time as any to get more involved in the national health service and to try and support it as best as I can. I also feel that in recent years I’ve been more and more involved in many Quaker activities and pursuits and I need to engage with more services, projects and enterprises outside of the Quaker sphere, so that I can keep my perspective broad. Hopefully joining the Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust will help.
