Lent Day #21 (40acts): Simplify. Another odd one from 40acts. This time we’re encouraged to simplify by chucking stuff out. To help us, they’re promoting a book about chucking stuff out and they’re giving some copies away free. Surely they should make it twice the price and encourage us to stop taking in more stuff?
There’s a whole market around this sort of thing. I’ve bought one of these books before. It is a very long way of being told don’t buy things you don’t need and don’t keep things you don’t need. I admit though that it is hard to keep to the discipline though.
I’ve also noticed that there’s a whole market of people and organisations charging other people and organisations how to get the most out of social media. It is the privatisation of social media. Or something like that. It isn’t about sharing for free and it doesn’t make the world a better place. It is all about making money out of other people. /rant over.
Day #21 (action): This week I bought cakes, biscuits and flowers for my friends at the Friends World Committee for Consultation. They’re organising a world conference of Quakers which is only a month away and they’re all working flat out. It seemed like a good idea and they all seemed to appreciate the gesture, which was nice.
